What we do

Events

We host many light-hearted, engaging and insightful activities in the Peak District National Park. We have something for everyone – guided walks, cycling, archery sessions, visits to historical sites and celebrations. We welcome everyone of all ages to join us no matter if you are a beginner or an expert on outdoor adventures. Every activity and event we do is designed to help people from diverse backgrounds to nurture relationships, grow skills, and enjoy the outdoors with their local community.

Visit our Events page to see what you can sign up for!

Training – We have run the Peak Wise People training programme in partnership with the Peak District National Park. This 6-day training programme helps people gain the skills to become Community Champions, and encourage them to access, explore and enjoy by arranging group visits for their families and friends. We also have training opportunities for the volunteer leaders who run our events.

New opportunities – We work closely with the Peak District National Park and other organisations such as the Wildlife Trusts to provide more opportunities for people and communities.

Case Study – The 60th Jamaica anniversary

PDM held a celebration to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Jamaica independence with a tree planting in Youlgreave village.  The celebration event included a group walk dominoes game,  poetry, songs, fashion show and Caribbean food. It was attended by people of different ethnicities and supported by PDNPA Rangers.
It was filmed on 19th August in Youlgrave.

Championing National Parks for Everyone project

Our latest project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, “Championing National Parks for Everyone”, looks to expand our work to the North York Moors National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park and create more opportunities for people to visit and enjoy the National Parks.

Please visit the Championing National Parks for Everyone project page for more information.

Championing National Parks for Everyone is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we hope that the project will support more people from diverse communities to have the skills and resources to build a lifelong relationship with their National Parks.

history

Peak District Mosaic grew out of a national Mosaic programme led by Campaign for National Parks with other partners/stakeholders such as National Parks and Youth Hostel Association. At the completion of Mosaic phase 2 in 2008, Mosaic Community Champions and the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) consolidated the investment made so far by forming Peak District Mosaic Champions.

In 2010, the first Peak Wise People programme, a partnership programme between PDNPA and Mosaic Champions, took place. A total of 10 Community Champions completed the programme.

Peak District Mosaic became independent in September 2014 with a celebration event in Bakewell.  Partnership work continues with PDNPA and other organisations to carry on the work of supporting and engaging with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in accessing the national park while making a difference to their health and wellbeing.

Peak District Mosaic formed its own committee with a constitution and was officially registered as a charity in April 2016 with governance support from DDCVS.

Peak District Mosaic and PDNPA collaborated on a number of projects since, including delivery of Peak Wise People Community Champion training programmes in 2017 and 2021.
