As some of you might be aware, Peak District Mosaic Trustee Will Ward works for the Peak District National Park Authority on the Moors for the Future Partnership.

The Partnership delivers a landscape-scale programme of blanket bog restoration across the Peak District and South Pennine moors to enhance habitats, improve water quality, reduce the risk of wildfires, to tackle climate change and create improved areas for people to enjoy visiting.

The other week some of the Partnership team were featured on the BBC’s Countryfile programme. The programme featured some of the key messages Will and the team are trying to get across to the public and what people can do to keep the National Park’s moors safe. In particular, they were highlighting the damage that fire can do to the local wildlife, and how quickly it can spread out of control. Simple steps we can all do include;

🔥Keeping the barbeques at home and enjoying a picnic instead.

🔥Taking home what you bring; litter can cause fires.

🔥If you see a fire, contact the Fire Service on 999 immediately.

You can watch the Countryfile episode on BBC iPlayer here.

The Moors for the Future segment starts from 15:25, for about 15 minutes.
