National Walking Month in May 2024

Did you know that May is National Walking Month in the UK?

What’s National Walking Month?

National Walking Month originated from collaborations between health and transportation organisations as a response to the growing sedentary lifestyle prevalent in modern societies and to advocate for sustainable transportation. Over time, it has evolved into a widely acknowledged event dedicated to celebrating the myriad benefits of walking.

As widely known, walking has a variety of benefits, such as physical health, mental well-being, and brain health. Walking is a low-impact exercise that refreshes our soul and mind.

5 benefits of group country walks with us

While walking can be a solitary activity, we love walking with friends, family, and community members! Here are 5 reasons we encourage you to join our group walks in the countryside:

1. Social Connection

Group country walks provide an opportunity to connect with others who share similar interests in nature and outdoor activities, fostering new friendships and a sense of community.

I got to meet and talk with people I didn’t know before . It was a great way to make friends and talk about life without feeling overwhelmed.

2. Motivation and Support

Walking in a group can provide motivation to stick to a regular walking routine and achieve fitness goals. The support and encouragement from fellow walkers help individuals stay committed.

3. Safety:

Walking in a group, especially in rural or remote areas, enhances safety by reducing the risk of getting lost or encountering potential hazards. Group members can provide assistance and support in case of emergencies. Our group walks have 2 experienced guides who always assess the route they are going to take.

4. Exploration and Discovery:

Group country walks allow participants to explore new trails, landscapes, and natural surroundings while enjoying the company of others. Our walk leaders are experienced guides with extensive knowledge of the history and nature of the Peak District National Park.

The guides knew their stuff and were able to advice on best courses of action.

5. Physical and Mental Health Benefits:

Engaging in group country walks offers numerous health benefits, including improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced stress levels, enhanced mood, and a sense of well-being. The combination of physical activity and immersion in nature positively affects both body and mind.
