Stoney Middleton: 29th March 2025

Enjoy a beautiful walk through the peaceful Coombs Dale, leading up to the historic Black Harry Gate. From there, we’ll explore Cavendish Mill and take a look at the old Fluorspar quarry and works, uncovering a bit of the area’s rich industrial past. To top it off, we’ll visit a fantastic viewpoint with stunning views across to Eyam.

Meeting/Starting point:

The bus stops at the main Calver Sough crossroads. The walk will start from here.

(there is a pub – Calver Arms and a café across the road (Café 19).

  • Sheffield Interchange: 09:36am
  • Arrival: Calver Sough crossroads 10:16 am
  • Start time of walk: 10.30am
 

Travelling by Car (postcode S32 3XH)

Parking: There is a free car park approximately 300 metres from the bus stop on the road to Stoney Middleton (park at your own risk)

The walk leader will meet you at the car park at 10:00am. 
Please arrive in plenty of time to find parking. You will then all go to the Calver Sough crossroads bus stop, to meet the other walkers.

Equipment:

Please ensure you dress appropriately/take the necessary equipment with you for the group walk:

  • wear comfortable walking shoes/boots (do not wear trainers)
  • cool/warm clothing depending on the weather
  • waterproof coat/jacket
  • bring sun cream if necessary
  • bring a packed lunch/snacks and water
  • Your ICE card
    NOTE: You can download and fill in an ICE card if you do not already have one. It is important to bring it with you.
